My friend Kim gave me a wonderful set of books to read this off season.
“The Broken Earth Trilogy” by NK Jemisin. It is wild. We have had some super relaxing Saturday’s this summer at Dowling Manor where I have read these books for hours on end. It has been a great year-plus of amazing storytelling in books, songs, films, and documentaries.
Have you seen the Bee Gees documentary – how can you mend a broken heart? Who knew they were famous before “Saturday Night Fever.” Not me.
Speaking of books, I’ve rebooted some favorite columns and turned them into my first book, “Professionally Distanced,” which will launch on Aug. 19 at Midtown Reader.
Also, locally, JR Harding’s book, “Now What,” shows us JR’s story of his journey with a significant disability and offers wisdom to anyone who has ever struggled in their own skin. It is a powerful read and I would make it mandatory reading for my class if I taught one.
